Absence case management

Absence guidance is more than ticking off deadlines. Our employability advisers actively steer the process: they build the file together with the occupational physician, visit the workplace and arrange suitable support before a case gets stuck.

Delivered by Arbo Concern, part of the Arbo Concern group

When to use this

  • Without a case manager of your own

In smaller organisations, absence guidance often lands on top of HR or the board. A regular employability adviser takes that work over.

  • When absence is rising

More reports or longer cases call for someone who keeps the overview and sees patterns, not just separate files.

  • With complex cases

Conflict, psychological complaints or an employee who will not cooperate: situations where one wrong step can lead to a wage sanction.

How it runs

  1. On a sickness report, the adviser assesses what is going on and when the occupational physician is needed.
  2. They stay in touch with the employee and the manager, and visit the workplace where that helps.
  3. If recovery stalls, they arrange suitable support: coaching, physical recovery or a conversation about workload.
  4. Every step and every deadline goes into the file, ready for the UWV review.

You keep control of your own absence policy; the employability adviser makes sure nothing is left lying around. That saves your HR team from tracking deadlines, and it saves the employee the feeling of being passed from one desk to the next.

Where this falls on the clock

Frequently asked questions

Questions about case management

Is your question not here? Call +31 71 401 81 41, weekdays from 09:00 to 17:00.

What does an employability adviser do beyond a case manager?

A regular case manager mainly watches the process and the deadlines. Our employability advisers are involved in the substance as well: they think along about the reintegration options and arrange suitable support themselves.

May a case manager see medical data?

No. The occupational physician is the only one who processes medical data. The employability adviser works with the limitations and possibilities the physician passes on, not with the diagnosis.

Who carries it out?

Arbo Concern, the certified occupational health service that Dokter Beter works with. You arrange it through us.
