Safety expertise and RI&E

Every employer with staff must have a risk inventory and evaluation (RI&E), with an action plan. Our safety experts draw one up, review an existing RI&E, and come and look when something has happened or when a workplace is causing complaints.

Delivered by Care Concern, part of the Arbo Concern group

When to use this

  • No RI&E, or an outdated one

The RI&E is required by law and has to be current. If something substantial changes in the work, the layout or the organisation, it has to be updated.

  • After an accident at work

An investigation into what happened and why, with measures that prevent a repeat. Serious accidents must be reported to the Netherlands Labour Authority.

  • With complaints about the workplace

Back, neck or shoulder complaints in one department are a signal. A workplace assessment shows what is causing the strain.

How it runs

  1. The safety expert inventories the risks per department and workplace.
  2. Risks are weighed and translated into an action plan with priorities and named owners.
  3. Where the law requires it, a certified senior safety expert reviews the whole.
  4. Where needed, training follows, so that the plan reaches the floor as well.

An RI&E in a drawer protects nobody. So it does not end with the report: the action plan names who does what and when, and where needed training follows so that it is known on the floor.

Where this falls in the process

Frequently asked questions

Questions about safety expertise

Is your question not here? Call +31 71 401 81 41, weekdays from 09:00 to 17:00.

Does our RI&E always have to be reviewed?

That depends on your size and on whether you use a recognised sector instrument. Small employers using such an instrument are often exempt. The safety expert tells you beforehand whether a review is needed in your case.

Is psychosocial workload part of it too?

Yes. Workload, unwanted behaviour and aggression belong in the RI&E. Care Concern investigates those separately; the occupational physician sees the same signals during consultations.

Who carries it out?

Care Concern, the safety expertise arm within the Arbo Concern group.
